School Social Worker / Counselor

The Washington Jesuit Academy, a Catholic school formed under the auspices of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) and operated according to Jesuit educational principles, is a tuition-free middle school offering high quality education to boys from low-income communities in the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades. Our Mission is to educate academically talented adolescent boys from low-income families, regardless of religious denomination, providing them with a disciplined, rigorous learning environment.

The goal of the Washington Jesuit Academy is to prepare our students to become "Men for Others" who, having gained confidence spiritually, intellectually, emotionally and physically will be able to succeed in high school, college, and beyond, on their way to becoming leaders in their communities.

The Washington Jesuit Academy is currently seeking a School Social Worker or Counselor to provide support services to our students and families in fulfillment of WJA’s overall mission to provide a comprehensive education that advances the emotional growth of our students.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working with students both in individual and group counseling, developing and teaching Social and Emotional Learning curriculum, organizing school wide programs related to students’ overall well-being
  • Working with families seeking assistance in various capacities, including behavioral/emotional/mental health support, provide referrals when appropriate, organize Parent Education Programs, coordinate Home-School Association
  • Working with faculty and staff as a resource for specific students and school-wide programming, consulting with teachers, dean of students, head/assistant head of school, learning specialist and school psychologist regarding students of concern
  • Experience and passion for working with students and families from diverse backgrounds
  • Clinical experience working with elementary and middle school aged kids
  • DC licensure in Social Work or Counseling / Supervision provided by WJA
  • Excellent communication (verbally and in writing) and social skills
  • Familiarity with and strict adherence to ethical standards

This position is for the 2017-2018 academic year, is a full-year position, and salary is commensurate with experience.
